Picture you are strolling along a not-so-narrow sidewalk only to be sideswiped by some ruthless passerby. There was plenty of space for both of you, so what just happened, you wonder. The Hey You! Project intervenes precisely at the very moment of these ephemeral crossings, challenging the hasty interloper to reflect on the politics of encounter. Ultimately, it seeks to draw attention to social dynamics such as gender, race and heterosexual privilege in public space, to create pedagogical moments that may subvert power relations.
